Ahead of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's" May release date, Marvel Studios dropped several new high resolution images from the film's latest teaser trailer. Fans will recognize many of the still images from the teaser, including closer looks at Baby Groot as he attempts to push a detonator button.

In other photos, Peter Quill wields his twin blasters and helmet, while another photo shows Quill and Drax the Destroyer gazing lovingly into each other's eyes. Gamora draws a sword and walks with Quill and Drax in other stills, and another finds Rocket Raccoon and Baby Groot gazing at the viewer through a hole in a wall.

Star-Lord's father, Ego the Living Planet, remains absent from all promotional material. In the comics, Ego is a literal "living planet," complete with a set of eyes, nose and mouth, so it remains to be seen if Russell's face will be transplanted on a computer-generated planet or if Ego will take a more human form in the film.

Opening May 5, 2017, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell.
