Before "Guardians of the Galaxy" premiered back in 2014, many questioned how Marvel Studios expected to sell a film with a talking tree -- one that only had the capability of saying three words, at that. Yet, by the end of the film, Groot managed to quickly become a fan-favorite. So when Groot was resurrected and brought back near the end of the first film as a baby, it was safe to presume he'd go on to steal the show in the sequel, and that he did. However, thanks to concept artist Josh Herman, we now know that the character could have looked a bit different.

Herman uploaded a few concept art pieces of Groot as a toddler and explained his take on the designs and his thought process going into them.

The first image is of Groot holding a raccoon plush.

While the second shows Groot entangled in a destroyed copy of Star-Lord's Awesome Mix: Volume 2.

And the third and final piece of concept art shows Groot holding a bottle.

Baby Groot was super fun to work on! When we were told that he was going to be a toddler, I wanted to try doing some concepts with props in them to help in him looking more like child. It was a really fun project and very happy to show these.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" has proven to be another success for Marvel Studios, pulling in an impressive $146 million domestically in its opening weekend. With a third film already announced, it's safe to say Groot will continue to steal hearts of Marvel fans over the years -- regardless of his size.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Glenn Close as Irani Rael and Kurt Russell as Ego. The film is currently playing in theaters.
