“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is a mere month away from hitting theaters and reuniting the dysfunctional spacefaring super team of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and Groot to once again fight galactic injustice, quipping all the way to victory. The Marvel Entertainment Twitter account today released the latest TV spot advertising the upcoming sequel. The new spot focuses on the numerous factions that have it out for the Guardians, including the Sovereign and the Ravagers.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” takes places roughly three months after the conclusion of the first film, which saw the Guardians come together to temporarily control the Power Stone — one of the six Infinity Stones — to thwart the Kree warrior Ronan the Accuser, before he could destroy the planet Xandar using the stone’s power. The five former convicts-turned-heroes were issued a pardon by Nova-Prime, head of the galactic police force called the Nova Corps, and started going by their now-infamous title: the Guardians of the Galaxy. The sequel film looks to answer the burning questions about Star-Lord’s parentage between another bout of galaxy-saving.
The sequel includes numerous returning characters, like Karen Gillan as the cyborg Nebula and Michael Rooker as head Ravager Yondu Udonta, as well as a new addition to the roster: Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha. Ayesha is the head of the genetically-perfect, gilded people called the Sovereign. Ayesha was originally introduced to the Marvel Comics canon in 1977 as Paragon in “The Incredible Hulk” #6. She would find a whole host of new identities as Her and Kismet before, in 1998, she was reintroduced as Ayesha in “Fantastic Four” Vol. 3 #11. Ayesha was created by the antagonistic Enclave as a weapon to be controlled — which didn’t last long. Largely considered a protagonist who rights cosmic wrongs, she adopted the name Ayesha while under the control of the Enclave villain Crucible.
The TV spot also calls out the Ravagers as enemies of the Guardians in the upcoming film. This should come as no surprise, as the conclusion of the first film saw Star-Lord handing over to Yondu, the leader of the Ravagers, an orb that looked very much like the one built to house the Power Stone, but, in fact, contained a Troll Doll. It’s very likely the Yondu is still hunting down his former shipmate to make good on the bargain the two struck…
Debuting in theaters on May 5, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is a production of Marvel Studios directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.
