Long before Star-Lord's Sony Walkman was a part of Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had an idea to include a Star Wars Easter Egg, which ended up being cut in favor of Peter Quill's signature music.

While doing press for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Feige revealed to Mashable that he once pitched the idea to include a Darth Vader figure as a fun little Easter Egg for fans -- a thought he'd been toying around with long before Disney ended up acquiring Lucasfilm. For Feige, the idea of adding a Star Wars Easter Egg wasn't just for the sake of corporate synergy, but rather a nice little wink for fans.

"Always, we wanted to reveal at a certain point in the movie that Peter Quill was a human from Earth," Feige explained. "And for a long time, I really thought it was going to be the greatest thing in the world that you're in a spaceship and he's talking to one of the alien characters and he knocks over his bag and one of the alien characters bends down and picks up and it was a Darth Vader action figure, goes, 'What's this?'"

Of course, Feige's idea of including a Darth Vader figure never actually happened, and that's because director James Gunn's idea for the Walkman ended up winning out. According to Feige, the Vader toy would have been a fun little reference for fans, but the Walkman ended up serving a much larger purpose by allowing music to be incorporated throughout the first two installments of Gunn's planned trilogy.

Still, even though the Darth Vader figure didn't show up in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found other ways to celebrate Star Wars on screen, the most recent being Spider-Man's take-down of Giant Man in last year's Captain America: Civil War. With a massive lineup planned, it's always possible Feige and company will find another way to rework his original Darth Vader idea.

Now in theaters, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Glenn Close as Irani Rael and Kurt Russell as Ego.
