USA Today has learned that Jonathan Frakes ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") will voice the role of J'Son, King of Spartax in the current season of Disney XD's animated "Guardians of the Galaxy" series.

Frakes will make his debut in the March 13 episode of "Guardians of the Galaxy," which is the first chapter in a longer storyline involving an investigation on Spartax and the disappearance of Star-Lord (Will Friedle).

"I'm thrilled to be part of another great sci-fi franchise," said Frakes to USA Today. "And I'm also lucky that the character of J'Son just happens to sound like me."

The casting confirms that the animated series will stay faithful to Star-Lord's comic book origins, as J'Son is also the characters father in the Marvel Comics series. That won't be the case for the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy" film sequel; writer/director James Gunn has been very clear that J'son will not be Star-Lord's father in the big screen adaptation.

Frakes debuts as J'Son in the March 13 episode of "Guardians of the Galaxy," which airs at 8 PM ET on Disney XD.
