The prolific Bates has a long history with comic book adaptations, having worked on “300,” “Watchmen,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and, most recently, “Atomic Blonde” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” His credits also include “John Wick” and its sequel, “Samurai Jack,” and collaborations with “Guardians” filmmaker James Gunn on “Slither,” “Super” and “The Belko Experiment.”

Although a premiere date hasn’t been announced, “The Punisher” is expected to arrive Netflix following this year, following “The Defenders” miniseries.

Spinning out of the events of “Daredevil” Season Two, “The Punisher” sees Jon Bernthal (“The Walking Dead”) return to his role as Frank Castle, who, haunted by the murder of his family, becomes a vigilante determined to fight crime by any means necessary. He’s joined in the series by Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman and Michael Nathanson.
