Green Lantern is going to war in Dark Crisis.

In Justice League #75, the entire team was killed by Pariah and an army of villains assembled by the Great Darkness. Though Green Lantern John Stewart fought alongside the League during its final moments, Hal Jordan was never summoned to the battlefield. In the Aug. 2022 solicitations revealed by DC Comics, Dark Crisis #3 promises that readers will see Jordan wage war against the Great Darkness while the cover drawn by Daniel Sampere shows the hero charging Pariah with constructs of the Justice League.

  • THE BATTLE OF THE EMERALD ARMY HAS BEGUN!
  • Hal Jordan has launched all-out war on Pariah and the Dark Army to avenge his fallen Justice League teammates—but how can one man stand in the way of the Great Darkness? Meanwhile back on Earth, Titans Tower has burned and Deathstroke’s army has continued its scorched-earth march across the planet. To stop Slade Wilson, the young heroes of the DCU might have no other choice than to turn to the brutal tactics of Black Adam…

Green Lantern's war against the Great Darkness is only the latest major plot point teased for the series. In an exclusive interview with CBR, Dark Crisis writer Joshua Williamson discussed how the series' first issue will feature the death of a major character, which will lead into a brutal fight between Nightwing and Deathstroke in the following issue. "[Dark Crisis #2 is] mostly one long fight scene and features a big fight between Nightwing and Deathstroke," Williamson said. "There's also a big confrontation between Cyborg Superman and Jon Kent, and there are some other really big moments that happen."

As mentioned previously, Dark Crisis will be an event without the Justice League following the team's demise, forcing the legacy heroes of the DC Universe to step up and take the League's place. However, Williamson has said that there will be no new Justice League in the series, despite the attempts of Superman Jon Kent.

"Jon tries to build one, but it's not going to work," Williamson explained. "You can't create a League just because you want to make one. It just doesn't work that way. That's a major part of the story, the fact that there really is no Justice League, and you can't just make one out of thin air."

Dark Crisis has been over a year in the making, and Williamson has kept busy during that time. After jump-starting a new era for DC Comics with the Infinite Frontier #0 oversized issue, Williamson penned the Infinite Frontier and Justice League Incarnate miniseries, the Robin and Deathstroke Inc. ongoing series, an arc of Batman, Justice League #75, the "Shadow War" crossover event and more. How these titles may lead into or set up Dark Crisis remain to be seen until the title goes on sale.

Dark Crisis #3 is written by Williamson with interior and main cover art by Sampere and colors by Alejandro Sánchez. Variant covers for the issue are contributed to by Michael Allred, Lee Weeks and Ethan Young. The issue goes on sale Aug. 2 from DC Comics. Before Dark Crisis #1 becomes available on June 7, readers can pick up Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition 2022 now and Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1 on May 31.
