Superhero Hype notes while more cast member have not been announced, a number of key production people have. They include production designer Grant Major and costume designer Ngila Dickson from “The Lord of the Rings,” director of photography Dion Beebe from “Miami Vice.” Superhero Hype goes the extra mile with the art director’s credentials. “Art director François Audouy may not have won any Oscars, but his resume working in genre movies is impressive, everything from doing concept art for James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ and ‘I Am Legend,’ acting as art director for ‘Watchmen’ and the first ‘Transformers’ movie, and working in various art capacities on all three ‘Spider-Man” movies,’ they write.
Directed by Martin Campbell, release date: June 17th, 2011
THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA
Fangoria (via Superhero Hype) mentions the film has a June start date in a preview of an article about the upcoming Universal film, “The Wolfman.” Fangoria writes, “‘By the time I got on a plane and arrived, it was three,’ recalls Johnston, speaking from the art department of THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA, which he’s readying for a June start.’ I suppose this means Cap has been tentatively cast or he will be entirely realized using computer generated images, like Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings.”
Release date: July 22nd, 2011
Hollyscoop (via Comic Book Movie’s Brent Sprecher) mentions both Ryan Reynolds and Sam Worthington are in the running to play the Savior of the Universe. Most interesting to me is the description of Flash. “The role calls for Flash as a handsome polo player and Yale graduate, who travels to the planet Mongo, where it’s discovered that the meteors are weapons devised by Ming the Merciless, evil ruler of Mongo,” writes Hollyscoop. Flash hasn’t been a polo player on film since the movie serials of the forties. He’s been everything from a football player to an adventurer to a teenager in the years since. At this point, returning to his origin as a polo player would be an interesting spin.
Release date: TBA
According to Collider, the project is no longer under active development at Warner Bros. The studio dropped the similar — in that both are beloved cartoon and toy franchises — “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” earlier in the year. Collider notes the project had been announced with director Jerry O’Flaherty in 2007.
Release date: Never?

TOWN ON HOLIDAY
In between Christmas and New Years, Hollywood is on break and news slows to a crawl. That doesn’t mean the Comic Reel takes a break. If there is something to report, we’ll bring it to you. Also, later in the week I’ll mention the only cheesy movie I know of that features a New Year’s Eve scene. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of the Year We Make Conact.
