MAN OF STEEL
According to The New York Times, Warner Bros will not have a formalized film presence at Comic-Con next month, which means no panels or presentations for the new Superman film or “The Dark Knight Rises.” David Glanzer, the convention’s director of marketing tells the Times that “not every studio comes every year.” The paper also notes plenty of films will still attempt to wow attendees descending on San Diego, but the sort of hype machine we’ve seen in years past may be taking a breather. That might not be a bad thing.
Release date: 2012?
Robert Downey Jr. made a surprise appearance at the Hero Complex Film Festival on Sunday. Slashfilm noted that the actor had a few things to say about the new movie. “Well, I hate everybody,” he joked. “I’m not talking about the cast, I’m not talking about Joss. What I mean is I tend to look at a scene and say ‘This is absolutely impossible, we can’t shoot this, it’s horrible. I can tell you 10 other movies its been in, I refuse.’ I usually start off the morning by refusing to do what I’ve signed on to do. So I brought that attitude, happily. I just thought ‘How are you gonna put all of us clowns together? He’s wearing a suit, he’s all jacked up, he’s so and so and poor Mark Ruffalo, he’s gonna out do us.’ And we’re about six weeks in and I have to say Joss Whedon is nailing it. He’s so smart and so good. And it’s gonna be great. I can’t believe I just said it, I never could’ve believed this but it’s gonna be great.” He also talked about securing Jon Favreau’s help for “Iron Man 3.”
Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

Harry Knowles at Ain’t It Cool News has learned the production will not be blowing up a Pittsburgh area sports arena, contrary to previous rumors. “However, they are going to be shooting at Heinz Field in the film and that there were going to be some pretty hefty explosions within the stadiumm [sic],” he writes. Apparently, the film will feature a Gotham City sports organization. What was the baseball team called in the comics? The Knights?
