The 5-minute long trailer kicks off with XXX minutes of recap, covering the Oswald/Ed relationship, Selina and Brice's falling out, Jim Gordon's fall and Barbara Keane's rise and [SPOILERS] apparent death. And then, of course, there's Bruce's encounter with Jerome... and his first meeting with Ra's al Ghul.

Four minutes in, we get to the closing scene of Season 3, which found Bruce perched on a gargoyle, dressed in black like a net-batman. "You can make a difference," Alfred's voice intones over a montage of Bruce, Selina, Riddler, Barbara, who is [SPOILERS AGAIN] decidedly not dead, and more. "There is a time for masks," Alfred advises, "and there is a time for Bruce Wayne."

The biggest reveal of them all, however, is the transformation of Jonathan Crane into the Scarecrow. Though Penguin, Riddler, Zsasz and other villains have been marauding their way through Gotham for quite some time, the Scarecrow's appearance here, in full costume, really drives home how close we might actually be to seeing Bruce suit up in more than just a black turtleneck and ski mask in order to fight crime.

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth. The series is set to kick off its fourth season on Thursday, September 28.
