DC Comics-inspired Batman prequel "Gotham" returns with a new episode on Fox tonight, the first new episode since late November. CBR has an exclusive clip from the episode -- titled "Ghosts," the latest chapter of season three's "Mad City" story arc -- featuring hitman Zsasz (Anthony Carrigan) dropping in on Gordon (Ben McKenzie).

In the last new episode before the break, "Beware the Green-Eyed Monster," Gordon stopped Mario Calvi (James Carpinello) from stabbing Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) by fatally shooting him. Naturally, this didn't set well with Mario's father Carmine Falcone (John Doman), sending Zsasz to deliver a frank warning to Gordon that it's only a matter of time before the mob boss orders Gordon's death. But it's not all bad new from Zsasz: "It's been really nice knowing you, you're a good egg," Zsasz says. "Also, nice shot on Mario. I never liked him."

"Gotham" airs 8 tonight on Fox. The show will run tonight and the next two Mondays, before taking another hiatus, and returning for the remainder of season three on April 24. Tonight's episode will also feature the return of Cameron Monaghan (Jerome) and Paul Reubens (Penguin's father). Here's the official network description:

Falcone places a hit on Gordon after learning that he shot Mario. Gordon and Bullock discover a follower of Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan), who plans to bring him back to life. Meanwhile, Penguin spirals out of control before the biggest television interview of his Mayoral career, and Bruce and Selina deal with Selina's mom's return to Gotham in the all-new "Mad City: Ghosts" episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Jan. 16 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
