Not even death will stand between Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) and "Gotham." Speaking to Zap2It, executive producer John Stephens revealed that the character -- who died in Season 2 -- will almost certainly make a comeback in the show. What's more, he'll have ties to "the Joker myth."

"It is 100% our intention to bring Jerome back," Stephens explained. "We're going to be playing it again this year and basically extending the idea of the cult of Jerome. We're building the architecture for him to come back."

"You'll have these underground movements that have started to talk about Jerome and what he represented and how he's going to come back like in the days of John the Baptist," he continued. "Setting the stage that if there is a Season 4, hopefully we'll bring that back in a much bigger way and you'll see these different versions of the Joker myth."

Monaghan teased his character's connection to the Joker even further on his Twitter. Asked if he went to "Suicide Squad," he implied that he didn't want to see it because a version of his character appears in the film.

No. Too much personal attachment to the material/role right now. Don't want the recent portrayal clouding my judgment if I... @harlicupcake- Cameron Monaghan (@cameronmonaghan) August 6, 2016

While his comment is far from a confirmation, it does tease his return to the show as well as Jerome's connection to the Joker.

Starring Ben McKenzie, Robin Lord Taylor, David Mazouz and more, "Gotham" returns to Fox on September 19th at 8 pm EST.
