Today Fox announced the synopsis of "Gotham" season three's premiere episode and its title. Just like season two -- which episodes were titled "Rise of the Villains" and "Wrath of the Villains," -- season three will begin every episode with the tag line "Mad City." While Gotham's decent into madness could be the reason for the new tag line, it could also refer to the impending arrival of the Mad Hatter.

The premiere episode, titled "Mad City: Better to Reign in Hell," will establish Gordon's role as Gotham's new bounty hunter. It will also shed some light on the whereabouts of Bruce's doppelganger and a new club called The Sirens. The phrase "Better to Reign in Hell" comes from the book "Paradise Lost," with the full quote being, "Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven."
