Golden Age Christmas – The Boy Commandos Fight a Christmas Gang

by  in Comic News Comment

Welcome to the latest edition of Golden Age Christmas, where we will feature a different Golden Age Christmas comic book story every day from now until Christmas Eve!

Today we look at a 1947 Boy Commandos story from Detective Comics #132!

The story (written by George Kashdan with art by a young Curt Swan and inker Steve Brodie) opens with the Commandos on a neat Christmas mission, where they deliver presents all over the world to the people who have helped them in the past (I like the old school use of continuity)…

Meanwhile, though, their old enemy Rollo has a deadly plan back in the States…

Dig the pre-Code violence!

Eventually, Tex and Andre follow the gang back to their hideout, but are captured…

Later, Rollo and the gang are taking the Santa Claus inspiration to the next level by entering homes through the chimney to rob them. They have Tex and Andre along as hostages, but the hostages find a way to get a signal to their teammates…

Very cool story. I especially LOVE the opening. And the early Swan art is interesting.
