“Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” the follow-up Gareth Edwards’ 2014 “Godzilla” reboot, now has a production date and shooting location. Legendary Pictures will start filming the monster sequel this year in Atlanta on June 19.

The film will be directed by Michael Dougherty, “Krampus” director, and star “Stranger Things” lead Millie Bobby Brown. “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is part of Legendary’s planned MonsterVerse, the kaiju-centric cinematic universe that will encompass the mythology of the current line of “Godzilla” and “King Kong” films, beginning with the upcoming “Kong: Skull Island,” which will likely include the shadowy Monarch corporation featured in “Godzilla.”

The production schedule should work out well for Brown, who is rumored to reprise her role as Eleven in season two of “Stranger Things,” which is also filming in Atlanta. Marvel’s “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War” are also currently filming in Atlanta. “Ant-Man and the Wasp” was originally slated to begin filming in Atlanta starting in June, but a recent Facebook post from Michael Douglas revealed the film’s start date had been pushed back a month.
