A new Titan will be revealed before Warner Bros./Legendary's Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters thanks to a prequel comic.

Legendary Comics will be releasing Godzilla: Aftershock, a tie-in prequel to Michael Dougherty's epic monster brawl, on April 16, 2019 -- over a month before the movie opens nationwide. As revealed by Bloody Disgusting, the 112-page graphic novel will be written by Arvid Nelson, who wrote the Skull Island: Birth of Kong prelude to 2017's Kong: Skull Island, with art by Drew Johnson.

This new chapter in Legendary's MonsterVerse will join other companion pieces, such as the official novelization as well as an art book. Nelson's story will focus on "a new threat rising," hinting that Godzilla will be facing a brand new Titan in the wake of Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla movie, which saw the monster throw down with the MUTOs in San Francisco.

Doctor Emma Russell (who'll be played by Vera Farmiga in the movie) is at the heart of this adventure, as she unravels the mysteries about all these Kaiju and tries to figure out what they mean for the future of mankind. This will help set up what's to come when Monarch tries to figure out a way for humanity to survive the likes of Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and of course, King Ghidorah in Dougherty's film in May.

The official synopsis reads:

"A new threat is rising, bringing with it devastating earthquakes, and possessing an unstoppable urge to destroy. Godzilla: Aftershock is yet another exhilarating entry into the canon of the MonsterVerse. The brilliant and driven Monarch operative Dr. Emma Russell races to stop the threat as clues emerge to reveal a terrible secret, a tragedy of apocalyptic proportions from the distant past that changed the course of human history, is returning to threaten it once more. A shadowy figure stalks Emma's every move as she travels the globe to uncover secrets, while Godzilla clashes in an ancient rivalry as old as the earth itself. The fate of the world lies in the balance in an epic confrontation that no Godzilla fan will want to miss."
