Adam Driver.

On Thursday, unconfirmed rumors surfaced that long-running DC Comics character Dick Grayson, in his Nightwing persona, might play a part in the untitled "Man of Steel" sequel, commonly referred to as "Batman vs. Superman." One day later, entertainment industry news site The Wrap has reported that "Girls" actor Adam Driver is a "serious contender" for the role.

Warner Bros. declined comment on The Wrap's story, which states that "at least two other actors" are in contention to play Dick Grayson. Latino Review, the original source of the Nightwing rumors, stated that Warner Bros. was looking for a "young John Hawkes" type, and Driver would presumably fit that bill.

Driver plays Adam Sackler on HBO's "Girls," a role that earned him an Emmy nomination this past year for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He's appeared in films including "J. Edgar," "Lincoln" and the upcoming Coen brothers film "Inside Llewyn Davis."

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman, the "Man of Steel" sequel is scheduled to be released on July 17, 2015.
