GI Joe Writer’s Australian Teen Apocalypse Doesn’t Bomb

Stuart Beattie isn’t just the man who penned the immortal line “Deploy the sharks!” for GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra; he’s also the writer and director of Tomorrow, When The War Began, an Australian movie based on a series of young adult novels about teens forced into war to save their hometown. And it’s a massive hit.

So big a hit, in fact, that it’s the third most successful opening for an Australian film in Australian box office history, which can only mean one thing: Sequels. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog is reporting that Beattie will write and direct two back-to-back follow-ups to the movie to complete the story – Not bad for his directorial debut, really. Maybe he’ll get a chance to do his dream Halo movie after all.
