It’s the film that just won’t give up. Fans have been patiently waiting for Ghostbusters 3 since the 1989 premiere of Ghostbusters 2 — but the film continues to be in development, occasionally rearing its head with new information. In fact, the last major update was in August 2011 when Dan Aykroyd said Ghostbusters 3 would film in 2012. While filming obviously hasn’t begun on the threequel, Aykroyd did give an update to local Buffalo, New York news channel WIVB during his appearance at an Amherst, New York liquor store to promote his Crystal Head Vodka.
“We’ve got a new writing staff working on it now,” Aykroyd told WIVB. “It’s got to be prefect. That’s the whole thing. There’s no point in doing it unless it’s perfect. So that’s what we’re up to now.”
At last mention, the Ghostbusters 3 script was being written by Gene Stupinsky and Lee Eisenberg, but based on Aykroyds comments, it’s possible the duo may no longer be involved. It’s also possible they wrote a script that’s now been handed off to a larger team of writers to polish up. However, Aykroyd provided no further details, leaving Ghostbusters fans to ponder what will happen next for the sequel.
