It looks like Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance co-director Brian Taylor will be sticking around the world of flaming skulls, as Deadline reports he's signed on to write and direct a big-budget adaptation of the Twisted Metal video game franchise for Sony.

The now-classic franchise, which dropped a new game for the PS3 this week, revolves around stylized, armed and amrored vehicles trying to destroy one another. A man named Calypso puts these death races together to see how people will react to such unusual circumstances. The most iconic character from the game has to be Sweet Tooth, a demonic, flame-headed clown who drives a tricked-out ice cream truck. Considering the work he did on Spirit of Vengeance, Sweet Tooth should prove no problem for Taylor.

This project will mark the first time Taylor has flown solo on a movie away from collaborator Mark Neveldine, but the Crank and Gamer directors will continue to work together in the future.
