George Lucas is taking a kind of "living encyclopedia" role when it comes to the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, announced in October with Disney's $4.05 billion purchase of Lucasfilm.

“[If the filmmakers ask],‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them,” he told Access Hollywood over the weekend. “I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that.’”

That doesn't sound like Lucas is particularly involved with the Michael Arndt-written sequel, does it? “Basically I’m not — I don’t really have much to do,” he clarified. No, it certainly doesn't.

Lucas also responded to rumors about Steven Spielberg's involvement with Episode VII, saying with a laugh, “I’m pretty sure he’d never want to do that!”

Star Wars: Episode VII is targeted for release in 2015.
