Less than a year after announcing he was finished with the animated franchise, director Genndy Tartakovsky has revealed he will indeed return for Sony's "Hotel Transylvania 3."

“I thought I was done exploring the world of 'Hotel Transylvania' after the first two films," he told The Hollywood Reporter, "but while I was away from the franchise finishing my TV show 'Samurai Jack,' an idea sparked that I got really excited about and made it irresistible to return and helm myself this third adventure."'

"Samurai Jack" is, of course, Tartakovsky's beloved animated series, which returns later this year for a 10-episode revival as part of Adult Swim's Toonami programming block.

Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg will reprise their voice roles as Dracula, Mavis and Johnny in "Hotel Transylvania 3," which boasts a script by Michael McCullers ("Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me").

The first two installments of Sony's animated franchise have earned a combined $821 million worldwide. "Hotel Transylvania 3" is targeted for release on Sept. 21, 2018.
