With director Chistopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” set to hit theaters in about a month’s time, fans have been concerned that, like “The Avengers” before it, a licensed video game isn’t releasing alongside the anticipated film. It’s not like we need one, especially with “Batman: Arkham City” still doing well when it comes to fulfilling Bat-needs (especially with the upcoming Armored Edition on its way), but some folks still want to settle the argument of who would win in a fight — Christian Bale’s Batman or Tom Hardy’s Bane.
Well, it looks like you’ll be getting your answer soon enough. Gameloft has announced that it is working closely with WB Games on a new iOS/Android game based on “The Dark Knight Rises,” scheduled for release later this summer. The game will tie in with events from Nolan’s film, as you cross paths with the likes of Bane, Catwoman and other characters all while attempting to keep Gotham City safe from criminals.
Gameloft has released a trailer for the game, and while it doesn’t really provide a lot of depth, it does show Batman when it comes to what he does best — busting the heads of thugs and criminals. The game will feature various open-world elements similar to that of “Arkham City,” as the Dark Knight will tackle a variety of missions, both those based around the story and side tasks to help boost his skills.
From what we’ve seen, the graphics look great thus far, especially for a mobile platform. The city appears to come to life in various ways, including passing trains and weather effects and Batman continues to look quite intimidating, especially after he plants a fist in a criminal’s face. Considering that Gameloft has been pushing the boundaries for mobile development (just look at its recently released first-person shooter “N.O.V.A. 3”), this should come as no surprise.
Still, not too much is known about the game just yet, such as whether we’ll use tools on Batman’s utility belt or perhaps run into other villains from the Batman universe, such as the Joker or the Riddler. Gameloft should have more information available over the next few weeks, leading up to the game’s release.
Look for “The Dark Knight Rises” on Apple iOS and Android devices later this summer.
