The polar vortex has nothing on the harsh winter of Game of Thrones, the HBO fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin's acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire book series — and that point will be hammered home when the new season premieres in the spring.

HBO has announced the hit drama will return April 6 for its fourth season. Additionally, the first full-length trailer will roll out on Sunday, just before the premiere of True Detective, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

The new season of Thrones picks up shortly after the events of the Red Wedding, the epic betrayal of Robb Stark and his fellow Northerners at the hands of Walder Frey and House Lannister. Expect even more betrayals and shocking deaths as the season unfolds.
