Game of Thrones and Fargo led the nominations for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, announced this morning, with the hit HBO fantasy series garnering 19, including nods for outstanding drama and supporting actress and actor in a drama (Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage). The FX crime drama was fast on its heels with 18 nominations, including those for outstanding miniseries and actor in a miniseries (both Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton).

However, it was crowded at the top, with American Horror Story: Coven garnering 17 nominations, and Breaking Bad and The Normal Heart earning 16 each. Of the comedies, Netflix's Orange is the New Black came out on top with 12.

On the comics-related front, Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Manhattan Project was nominated for outstanding animated program, while Seth Green got a nod for his character voice-over performance in Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken DC Comics Special II: Villains In Paradise. Although AMC's The Walking Dead wasn't recognized in any of the major categories, it did receive nominations for outstanding sound editing, and outstanding special and visual effects in a supporting role. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. earned a nod for outstanding special and visual effects.
