Gael Garcia Bernal will reunite with “Desierto” director Jonas Cuaron for the post-apocalyptic Zorro film "Z."

The "Mozart in the Jungle" star originally signed on in 2012, when the reboot was in the works at Fox with a different title ("Zorro Reborn") and a different script -- although his association with the film dates back much further. However, it was unclear when the reboot was rescued from development hell last year by Lantica Media and Sobini Films whether Garcia Bernal would remain involved.

The project transplants the swashbuckling pulp hero from California under Spanish rule to a near-future setting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Z" is on track to begin filming this fall at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios. Of course, production was previously slated to begin in March.
