FX's Legion Brings Jemaine Clement on Board

The comedic actor will play a recurring character in the X-Men related series.

"Flight of the Concords" star Jemaine Clement will be adding his mutant power of enhanced awkwardness to the upcoming FX series "Legion." the announcement was made on Sunday at a New York Comic Con panel where executive producer Noah Hawley uploaded an image of Clement to Instagram with the text "expect the unexpected."

It was revealed at the panel that Clement would be in multiple episodes of the season -- however, his role in the show was unspecified. Given the actor's range, he could play anything from an uncomfortable persona created by the troubled mutant protagonist of the series David Haller, or he could very well be a villain.

That said, fans dying for more information about the series will be glad to hear that some plot details were revealed at the panel, when the first half of the pilot episode was aired. To say that Haller (Dan Stevens) is an unreliable narrator is an extraordinary understatement. The episode begins with David being visited by his sister, Amy (Katie Aselton) in the mental hospital he's currently staying in. Afterwards, Heller sets up a date with a fellow resident, Syd (Rachel Keller) while recovering drug addict Lenny (Aubrey Plaza) provides some dry commentary to David. After a date set to the Rolling Stones song "She's A Rainbow," it's revealed the entire opening sequence was a hallucination, or potentially a powerful illusion created by David. This is discovered during an interview between David and his therapist, which we've seen parts of in the first trailer for the series. This is when it's also revealed that David isn't in a normal mental hospital, but rather a high school turned government facility presumably created to monitor and contain powerful mutants.

Debuting in early 2017 on FX, “Legion” also stars Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton and Bill Irwin. A co-production of Marvel Television and FX Productions, the series is executive produced by Hawley, Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg and Jeph Loeb, among others.
