Psycho and Silence of the Lambs aren't the only big-screen thrillers making the transition to television. If FX likes what Lionsgate TV has in the works, American Psycho will eventually join Bates Motel and Hannibal on the small screen, Variety reports.

In 2000 director Mary Harron not only adapted Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 novel, but also introduced many viewers to Christian Bale, who portrayed murderous maniac Patrick Bateman, a killer who thrived in the Me Decade.

The TV drama would focus on a more modern version of Bateman, now in his mid-50s. Instead of mellowing with age, Bateman has decided to take on a student in order to pass on all his murder knowledge. The pilot is being penned by Danish TV writer Stefan Jaworski, who will also executive produce.

This is actually the second continuation of the American Psycho story. In 2002, Mila Kunis starred in American Psycho 2 as a girl turned murderer after witnessing her babysitter's death at the hands of Patrick Bateman and returning the favor with an icepick. Most fans of the book and film ignore the straight-to-video offering.
