After posting a variety of creepy crawly teasers and a few trailers, FX might have crossed a line with the most recent promotion for its upcoming vampire drama The Strain. Last week, the network put up a series of billboards in Los Angeles featuring a version of the following poster:



As you can imagine, the billboards caused quite a stir with plenty of reactions, including an article by BuzzFeed writer Kate Aurthur, who decried the image. After the initial posting, an official from FX contacted Aurthur and said the network was “in the process of replacing the key art for The Strain on outdoor media in several locations.”

The Strain, based on the novel trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, debuts July 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
