Update: According to TheWrap, director David Bruckner is no longer attached to "Friday the 13th."

"Prisoners" screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski is in negotiations to pen the new "Friday the 13th" film for Paramount Pictures, Variety reports.

Whether he'll start from scratch or work from previous drafts isn't clear; "Hannibal" scribe Nick Antosca took a stab at the script earlier this year.

Produced by Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, the film would be the 13th installment of the horror series, and the second attempt at a revival since 2009. David Bruckner ("V/H/S") is attached to direct what's expected to utilize the found-footage technique. Early drafts were said to delve into why masked antagonist Jason Voorhees can't die.

Guzikowski's other projects include a remake of “Papillon," and the reboot of "The Wolf Man" for Universal Pictures' planned Monsters Universe.
