Like a vengeful spirit, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has risen again.

Deadline reports that CBS Films' adaptation of Alvin Schwartz's three-book series is back up and running, with John August (Frankenweenie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) writing the script.

Last year, Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan worked on a version of the film that centered on a group of kids terrorized by elements from the stories as their town came under ghoulish attack. August is reportedly turning back to the books as inspiration, which might mean an anthology is in the works.

No director is attached, but considering August's longtime working relationship with Tim Burton, we can think of a pretty good candidate.
