TVLine has announced that Fox's "Exorcist" pilot has cast Ben Daniels ("House of Cards") and Alfonso Herrera ("Sense8") as series regulars. The project will update the classic novel and is described by Fox as “a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession, and confronting the face of true evil.”

Daniels will play as Father Marcus, who Fox calls "the intense holy warrior carrying out an occupation that the church no longer acknowledges in public.” Herrera's character, Father Tomas, is “the warm, selfless and compassionate leader of a small but hearty little church.” Daniels and Herrera join cast members Brianne Howey and Hannah Kasulka.

The pilot was penned by Jeremy Slater ("The Lazarus Effect").. Fox's take on "The Exorcist" is described as a "modern reinvention" of the original William Blatty novel, which in turn inspired the classic 1973 film. Slater's involvement with the project was first announced way back in 2013. Rupert Wyatt ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes") is attached to direct the pilot.
