Fox’s X-Men TV Series Gets Official Pilot Order

by  in TV News Comment

Fox’s live-action series set in the X-Men universe is one step closer to TV screens: the network has given an order to a pilot, as reported Tuesday by multiple sources including Variety.

The official description from Variety is that the pilot “will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

Matt Nix, creator of “Burn Notice,” will write the pilot and executive produce. If this as-yet untitled project makes it to series, it’ll join FX’s soon-to-debut “Legion” as the second X-Men-inspired show to make it onto a Fox-owned network — but while that show is openly disconnected from 20th Century Fox’s live-action X-Men films, this show is “expected to tie more closely” to the broader franchise.

Along with Nix, X-Men film franchise veterans Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg are set to serve as executive producers, as is Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb. Unlike Fox’s X-Men films, which are produced completely outside of the auspices of Marvel Studios and its parent company Disney due to a longstanding rights deal, Marvel Television is a credited producer on live-action X-Men shows, including “Legion.,’ along with 20th Century Fox TV.
