The found-footage superpower movie Chronicle remains a priority at Fox. With neither director Josh Trank nor screenwriter Max Landis returning, the studio has hired someone else to steer the project forward.

Deadline reports Chronicle 2 will be written by Jack Stanley, a newcomer who penned a Black List screenplay called Sweetheart about a female assassin forced to navigate her high school reunion. That project, along with a werewolf-centric film he wrote called Silver, put Stanley on Fox's radar, leading to the Chronicle gig.

As for what Chronicle 2 will focus on, it's far too early to say. Before leaving the project, Landis was outspoken about his vision for the sequel, which would have centered on Matt Garetty, the first film's lone superpowered survivor. We'll have to wait and see to find out what Stanley has in mind, and to see who Fox lines up to direct and star in the sequel.
