Fox isn't monkeying around. Well before the release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes this summer, the studio has already announced a release date for a sequel: July 29, 2016.

It was recently confirmed that director Matt Reeves has signed on to helm the third installment of the rebooted Apes franchise. Now we know the release date — but very little else. It feels safe to assume that Andy Serkis will return in some capacity, be it as Caesar or as a descendant. But there's no official word on that front, nor is there anything about returning cast members from the upcoming Dawn. But given the recent flow of Apes news, and the tight turnaround for the threequel, we should hear more news, casting announcements included, in the coming months.

In the meantime, clear your plans for July 11, 2014, when Dawn hits theaters.
