The first official poster of James Mangold's "The Wolverine" has surfaced in the film's official website. Inspired by classic Japanese ink art, the poster features a black-and-white ink drawing of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine with his claws extended in a pose long associated with the character. Although the poster doesn't contain the actual title of the film -- only the release date -- the minimalist style certainly evokes the setting of the film. Mangold's film takes place after the original "X-Men" trilogy and sees Logan travel to Japan. Judging from production stills, it's highly likely there will be flashback aspects to the movie as well. "The Wolverine" is based on the 1982 "Wolverine" miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, which dealt with the X-Man battling the Tokyo underground for the heart of his ex-lover, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord.

Directed by Mangold, "The Wolverine" opens July 26, 2013 and stars Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanad, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.
