Unable to settle on a leading man, Fox has placed the planned U.S. remake of "Luther" on hold.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has moved the cast-contingent pilot to the back burner after briefly eyeing Marlon Wayans for the role originated by Idris Elba. The project won't be targeted for pilot season, and will instead be developed off-cycle.

Neill Cross, who created the acclaimed BBC original, is on board to write drama and to executive produce, alongside Elba.

"Luther" is a psychological drama that follows Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, whose obsessive dedication to his work leads him to be consumed by the darkness of the crimes he investigates.

Filming is under way in and around London on a "Luther" two-part miniseries, starring Elba, that will air next year on BBC and BBC America.
