Fox has canceled the Kevin Bacon serial-killer drama "The Following" after three seasons, TVLine reports. It's two-hour season finale, set to air May 18, will serve as its series finale.

Debuting in January 2013, the drama centered on Bacon's Ryan Hardy, a former FBI agent attempting to help recapture escaped serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), who had established a cult of fanatical killers who did his bidding.

"The Following" premiered to 10 million viewers, and averaged 8 million in its first season. However, that number slipped to 5.2 million in the second season, with Season 3 opening to just 4.8 million. This week's episode drew 3.22 million.
