A viral video recorded on Memorial Day features former Marvel Comics editor Christian Cooper asking a white woman to leash her dog in the Ramble section of New York's Central Park. The woman, Amy Cooper, responded by declaring she was going to call the police to tell them that "an African-American man is threatening my life."Christian Cooper's sister, Melody Cooper, shared the video on Twitter, which has been viewed over 12 million times as of this writing. Melody Cooper captioned the video with the message, "Oh, when Karens take a walk with their dogs off leash in the famous Bramble in NY’s Central Park, where it is clearly posted on signs that dogs MUST be leashed at all times, and someone like my brother (an avid birder) politely asks her to put her dog on the leash."RELATED: When Even His Own Editor Didn't Get The Whole Woodgod 'Scream' Deal

Melody Cooper is a 2019 HBO Access Fellow and writer of the Omni comic book series for Humanoids. Hours after sharing the video, she provided an update to let everyone know that her brother Christian is fine and they are grateful for their concern.

Christian Cooper, the senior biomedical editor at Health Science Communications, also recounted the incident on his Facebook page, which his friend Roy Tsao also shared on Twitter. He recounted how he offered Amy Cooper's dog a treat, and when the dog approached him, she screamed at him to not touch her dog.

Twitter users quickly tracked down Amy Cooper's place of employment, Franklin Templeton, to let the company know that one of its employees was threatening to call the police on a black man, after being asked to obey the leash signs in the park. The official Franklin Templeton Twitter account released a statement that reads, "We take these matters very seriously, and we do not condone racism of any kind. While we are in the process of investigating the situation, the employee involved has been put on administrative leave."

Finally, people concerned over the welfare of Amy Cooper's dog also reached out to the animal rescue that previously took care of the animal. The Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc. released a statement on its Facebook page, revealing Amy Cooper "voluntarily surrendered the dog in question" while the matter is being addressed.
