Over the weekend, "Flash" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg gave fans a gorilla-sized hint regarding one of the speedster's most famous villains -- Gorilla Grodd. The reveal came via Twitter, where Kreisberg revealed that he and "Flash" writer Geoff Johns got a peek at the progress being made on Gorilla Grodd.

Grodd was teased way back in the "Flash's" pilot episode with a shot at an empty cage bearing his name. Johns himself talked to Buzzfeed about the Easter egg back in October.

"Like, I can't believe Gorilla Grodd's gonna be in a 'Flash' TV show," said Johns. "That's insane. Like, I say it out loud and I still think it's insane. But that's what we want to do; we want to break new ground."

Just a month later, "Flash" EP Greg Berlanti told TV Line that the villain would show up during the show's first season.

"I would say we're going to deal with [Grodd] this year," said Berlanti last November. "The comparison I make is a little bit to Slade the first year on 'Arrow' in the sense of we started with the mask in the pilot and then we saw which way we were going. He was, ultimately, in the back half of that first season even more than we would ever do with Grodd this first year because... We're going to have to get the technology right and all the stuff right to make it look and feel real. But a lot of times, we do this stuff not as a tease as much as a challenge to ourselves of, 'Can we do it?' Grodd's definitely one of those, so we hope we pull it off." Judging by Kreisberg's tweet, it sounds like "Flash's" VFX team is up to the challenge posed by creating a CG gorilla to fight Barry Allen.

"The Flash" airs Tuesdays on the CW.
