Comic book series "Wynonna Earp" will get a live-action adaptation in 2016 on Syfy, and the first official promotional images from the show have been released online -- showing Melanie Scrofano in the title role and the tagline, "Evil souls burn longer."

The synopsis for the series has also been released: "After years on the run and in juvenile detention, Wynonna Earp is finally coming home. The only problem is no one back home wants her to return. But when she becomes the town's only hope of eradicating mysterious demons, Wynonna must choose which side of the law she wants to fight on in order to clear the name of her legendary great grandfather Wyatt Earp once and for all."

Based on the IDW Publishing comic book series created by writer Beau Smith and illustrated by artists including Joyce Chin and Pat Lee, "Wynonna Earp" is expected to debut on Syfy in April 2016, with an initial order of 13 one-hour episodes. The show is currently in production in Calgary, and is produced by IDW Entertainment -- the first TV show produced by IDW -- and SEVEN24 Films. Emily Andras, a producer on "Lost Girls" and "Killjoys," serves as executive producer and showrunner.
