HBO has rolled out the first teaser for "Westworld," an adaptation of the 1973 Michael Crichton sci-fi classic.

Created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the sci-thriller -- "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin" -- boasts an all-star cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright.

The original film, which starred Yul Brynner, was set in a resort called Delos that allows high-paying visitors to stay in one of three areas that recreate various times and places from history utilizing robots instead of actors: West World, Medieval World and Roman World. Just how much the television deviates from that premise remains to be seen.

Debuting in 2016, "Westworld" also features Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr., Simon Quarterman and Angela Sarafyan.
