Universal Orlando has debuted the first image from "Skull Island: Reign of Kong," a new attraction targeted to open this summer.

The image depicts the massive, foreboding gates through which guests will pass on their way to the “multi-dimensional experience."

Announced in May 2015, the Islands of Adventure ride will allow visitors to navigate perilous jungles, explore ancient ruins, encounter hostile natives and enter caves crawling with prehistoric creatures before coming face to face with Kong himself.

According to the theme park, the adventure begins at the camp of 8th Wonder Expedition Company. Moving beyond that, visitors are drawn by the sound of beating drums to an ancient temple and, beyond that, the ruins of a lost shrine. Ignoring warnings to turn back, guests board a specially designed expedition vehicle that takes them deeper into the island, where they're confronted by an enormous temple wall, with massive gates that open to reveal a labyrinth of caves. There, they'll meet the expedition leader and then find themselves in the middle of a struggle between "creatures of incomprehensible size and ferocity." And then Kong makes his presence felt.

The attraction will help to set the stage for Legendary Pictures' "Kong: Skull Island," which arrives March 10, 2017.
