With “Justice League: Doom” set to release February 29 on DVD and Blu-ray, DC Comics and Warner Bros. are already hard at work on the next installment in DC Universe Animated Original Movies. “Superman vs. The Elite,” starring “Justice League” alum George Newbern as Superman and “NCIS” star Pauley Perrette as Lois Lane, pits Superman against The Elite, a ruthless team with incredible powers. The film is based on the story “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way” from “Action Comics” #775 written by Joe Kelly.
TV Guide has posted a first look at the animation style of the film in an interview with Pauley Perrette, where the actress expounded on Lois Lane’s role in the upcoming animated feature, comparing her NCIS character Abby Sciuto to the Daily Planet journalist.
“I think there are similarities between Abby and Lois,” Perrette told TV Guide. “They’re both very smart and confident and really good at their jobs. They’re both really focused. Abby just doesn’t have a Superman.”
“Superman vs. The Elite” is the 14th DC Comics Animated Original Movie and was previously announced at Comic-Con International at San Diego in 2011. According to TV Guide, the animated feature does not yet have a release date, but is expected before CCI 2012. “Superman vs. The Elite” follows “Justice League: Doom” as the second DC Comics Animated Original Movie in 2012. Other projects still to come include a two-part adaptation of Frank Miller’s fan-favorite “The Dark Knight Returns.”
