After experiencing multiple delays, the long-anticipated "Star Trek: Discovery" has finally entered production. In celebration of this step forward, Paramount has released a new video offering a quick look behind the curtain of the new series.

The first half of the minute-long video revisits the origins of the entire Star Trek franchise: "Om March 11, 1964, Gene Roddenberry wrote three words on a blank page," the voiceover intones. "'Star Trek' is..." The, following a brief history of Trek throughout the decades, we're told "'Star Trek Discovery' will begin that sentence once again." The second half of the video then offers glimpses of the sets being built, the ship being animated, the new crew's updated uniforms and, perhaps most importantly, a dramatic shot of the new Captain's chair.

“Star Trek: Discovery” was originally announced with January debut date, a premiere that has been set back several times due to delays in the pre-production process. A new time frame for its premiere has not yet been announced.

Set a decade after the events of the original “Star Trek,” the series centers on the crew of the Starfleet vessel the U.S.S. Discovery. The season-long storyline will focus on an event from the franchise’s mythology that’s been mentioned but never explored.

“Star Trek: Discovery” will first debut on CBS, and then move to the network’s streaming service, CBS All Access, for its 13-episode first season. Along with Frain, cast members include Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp.
