Ahead of the cable network's presentation at the television upfronts today, Freeform has officially release the first trailer for its upcoming "Cloak and Dagger" series starring Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph. The trailer, which you can view below, manages to capture the essence of these characters, their origin stories, and their powers, albeit with a twist here and there. The first episode, which wrapped back in February, was directed by "Love & Basketball" director Gina Prince-Bythewood. Eagle eye fans will note that a few scenes previously teased in a set photo from Prince-Bythewood can be spotted in the trailer, including the previously teased car crash.

The official series synopsis reads:

Described as a superhero love story, Cloak and Dagger is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including Spiderman and X-Men stories. The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

The series marks the first collaboration between Marvel and Freeform, who are also developing "New Warriors" as a half-hour comedy series set to also debut sometime in 2018. The team roster for that series was just announced this morning, with Squirrel Girl set to be joined by the likes of Speedball and Mr. Immortal.

Based on the Marvel Comics characters created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan, “Cloak & Dagger” is targeted for a 2018 premiere on Freeform (formerly ABC Family).
