Although Marvel Studios has yet to announce a Black Widow movie, Scarlett Johansson’s prominence in the early marketing for Captain America: The Winter Soldier has fueled fans’ hopes for a larger role for the character, in the sequel and beyond, and even for that solo outing.
It turns out they may not be disappointed, as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed The Avengers: Age of Ultron will delve into Natasha Romanoff’s history, something that could be fleshed out in a spinoff.
“Widow’s part in that is very big,” Feige told Total Film (via ComicBookMovie). “We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”
Johansson will next be seen alongside Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which opens April 4.
