Fear the Walking Dead Announces Return Date for S3

The dead will rise again this summer. AMC has announced the return dates for the zombie thriller spinoff series “Fear the Walking Dead,” the show that follows a small group of survivors at the former United States-Mexico border through the aftermath of the worldwide zombie apocalypse as depicted in the series “The Walking Dead.” The upcoming third season looks to tie up loose ends from the end of season two, while adding new characters and unique, often grotesque, challenges for its surviving cast to overcome.

The third season of “Fear the Walking Dead” debuts Sunday, June 4 at 9 p.m. PT/ET with two back-to-back episodes. The season will consist of eight episodes aired over six weeks until Sunday, July 9, which will mark the show’s mid-season finale and limited hiatus. The show’s return date was originally announced on last night’s episode of “The Talking Dead” show that follows each episode of “Fear the Walking Dead” and its sister production, “The Walking Dead.”

The end of the second season of “Fear the Walking Dead” saw the reunion of apocalypse survivors and former school workers Madison and Travis. Madison’s daughter, though, was left traumatized by the death of Andres, whom she killed when he attempted to murder Travis in retribution for killing Oscar, the leader of a group of survivors residing in a hotel. Meanwhile, Nick, Madison’s son, had his bout with leadership that resulted in a fresh bullet hole in Luciana and a newfound sense of vulnerability. The enterprising businessman, Victor Strand, was looking to turn a profit in the zombie outbreak while Ofelia’s savagery was being tested by her captivity.

The third season will see the introduction of a new survivalist community helmed by actors Dayton Callie, Daniel Sharman and Sam Underwood, who will play the members of the Otto family. While the Otto family were sufficiently prepared for an apocalyptic event, they, like many survivors in both “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead,” could not predict the return of ravenous, shambling corpses. Viewers looking to catchup on “Fear the Walking Dead” before the third season’s premiere can find the first and second seasons in their entirety on the Hulu video streaming service.
