FCBD 2015 Breaks Records With Over 5 Million Comics Ordered

Diamond Comic Distributors have announced via press release that this year’s Free Comic Book Day event has broken previous records for the number of comics ordered. 5.6 million free comic books are expected to be available when the event hits on May 2. The announcement states that this figure shows a 21% increase over last year’s FCBD order. The number of stores participating in the annual event has also increased 8% from last year. 2,430 specialty shops across the world will take part in this year’s Free Comic Book Day.

A number of comic publishers have announced their Free Comic Book Day offerings, including Marvel, DC, BOOM!, Archie, Valiant, Dark Horse and more. Marvel Comics has announced that they will include their Avengers/”Attack on Titan” crossover — previously only available in Japan — in their FCBD “Secret Wars” issue. Valiant has also recently revealed their extensive lineup of offerings.

“FCBD is the day after the opening of the Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ film, and thousands of comic book shops across North America and around the world will look to share the magic of comic books with their communities,” said FCBD spokesperson Deborah Moreland in the release. “Free Comic Book Day is a wonderful time of year for independently owned and operated comic shops as FCBD gives them an extra push in business as they connect with new customers and get a positive charge forward for the summer months and rest of 2015.”

Free Comic Book Day 2015 will take place on May 2.
