In the wake of star Paul Walker’s death late last month, Fast & Furious 7 will open April 10, 2015, nine months after its original release date.
Vin Diesel made the announcement last night on his Facebook page, where he posted the above photo, described as “the last scene we filmed together”: “There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared … in the film we were now completing … the magic captured … and, in just how far we’ve come.”
Walker, 40, died Nov. 30 in a car crash outside Los Angeles while production of Fast & Furious 7 was on Thanksgiving break. Universal Pictures executives and director James Wan held a conference call the next day to gauge the status of the film and to decide whether rewrites would be required; production was officially shut down on Dec. 4. Although filming was reportedly halfway complete, many of Walker’s key scenes remained to be shot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “informed sources” say that Walker will appear in the seventh installment of the blockbuster franchise, but no further details are known. According to the website, Wan and screenwriter Chris Morgan have begun revising the script in an effort to retire Walker’s character using scenes already filmed.
